On March 8 2014 all over the world sex workers rights groups organized a flash mob to make the statement: sex workers’ rights are women’ s rights. It happened in Berlin, London, Thailand, China, Peru, Poland, Hungary, Portugal, Norway, Australia and in Amsterdam. In sum total it happened in 12 countries. I was in Amsterdam. About 30 to 40 people turned up. The weather was fine, so tourists with a red umbrella could not be mistaken for an activist. 🙂
Why a red umbrella? The story. In 2003 the Italian sex workers’ rights activists wanted to demonstrate during the Biennale in Venice. That day it was raining cats and dogs. What to do? Some women came up with the idea to buy red umbrellas.
